A clothing and variety shop like a treasure chest that is easy to lose track of time.
You get off at JR Uji station and head toward Ujibashi on a street which run parallel with JR Nara line, and you will see a cute variety shop on the first floor of an apartment. I see some plants and vintage style garden goods outside and I go inside to see more items they have.
Clothing, variety goods such as plates, sewing supplies and accessories line up everywhere in this shop called toritoRu. The owner, Ms.Yoshie Tanaka, who used to make cloth goods and sell them at a market, wanted to have a place to talk more to the customers and opened this place in 2011.
Clothing she sells here is made out of natural materials and selected from about 8 brands which have comfort in their clothing. She only buys things that she would like to recommend to the the customers and she actually wears them everyday and also she tries at the brand exhibitions as well.
My eye captures an arrow coat by veritecoeur displayed inside the shop. This is the regular item of this brand, but the denim color is the new one actually. There is no armhole, but it looks like an arrow that the body parts and sleeves are connected. Therefore it’s called arrow coat and it’s loosely tailored so that you can wear it comfortably. It is a light cotton material, so you might be able to enjoy the day off in a spring time with this.
Cotton 100% knit has a lot of kinds such as turtle neck, crew neck, long sleeve, three-quarter sleeve, boarder and plain sweaters by tumugu. These are very popular items that makes even a lot of repeaters. Ms.Tanaka says, “you can enjoy the coordination of layered look and the touch of soft cotton texture.”
She is a cloth goods maker, so that I see a lot of sewing supplies. I see LOGIN buttons that makes me feel pleasant and there are more than 100 kinds of accessory parts to use for handicrafts.
toritoRu was named after tottori where Ms.Tanaka was born. She puts her concepts on the name as people can come back to her store like their hometown. In order to let her customers enjoy every time they come, she arranges and changes displays often with new items.
Inside of the shop, there is a woman who has grandchildren and she is asking Ms.Tanaka about this and that and it seems she enjoys shopping so much. Ms.Tanaka says, “My customers’ age are wide ranged, and there is a teenage girl who loves handicrafts and comes here since I opened this shop. So, I am actually looking forward to watching over her growing up here.” I enjoy talking to her and spend my time fully into look for my own favorite goods here like I am hunting a real treasure.
