Gohanya Shinkiro

Although many people are interested in visiting Kagai (Kyoto's Geisha district), it is also a distinct place where it seems awkward to do so. For some reason, you may be caught by a sense of tension once you step in. In such area, there is this one restaurant, in a particularly stylish looking Machiya (townhouse) and signboard.

So I went in. Lunch looks fancy, yet reasonable.
It is not like those lunch menu that is obviously using the last night's leftover, but so properly prepared that I get drawn into, one bite after another. Today's lunch set, which was stewed fish for me, was such a satisfying value.

Food is prepared neatly and with many vegetables. I even think it will go great with sake. Being in the Kagai, I can see Maiko's fans put up in the ceiling. Thoughtful service also makes me comfortable. Sitting at the counter seat, peaking into the kitchen, relaxed. I can certainly enjoy my time. Some customer was even reading a book. This one of those place that would make us want to come back for dinner as well.

Outside, there is a voice coming from somewhere, Maiko is greeting 'ookini (thank you)'. Having enjoyed Miyagawacho, I'm looking forward to exploring Kyoto more.
